Dr. Seuss

I have been to many places and seen many things, from the Normandy beaches, which reminded me of those who fought for freedom, to the tropical island of Fiji where I saw God work in miraculous ways. Each new place, every new city, all the people I have met; change my life. In England I learned the value of loving my work, Africa taught me the joy of quietly observing.

If asked which was my favorite place… honestly… I couldn’t say. I loved every country I visited, each had something new and different to offer.

Different.

Often people stereotype about this country’s culture or that country’s food, but they are supposed to be different. If each place or person were the same, life would be incredible boring!

You don’t have to leave the country or even your town to find someone different than you. At school, work, the grocery store, we encounter a multitude of people. Do we stop to consider… Who are they? What is their story? What makes them unique?

I don’t understand society today, we don’t want to talk to people, we don’t want to share who we are, but we will post on Facebook or Instagram what we had for breakfast. Does this really make sense? We go around not knowing people and not caring enough to ask.

I wonder what would the world be like if we took the time to care?

If we took the time out of our day to stop and ask, what is your story?

What makes you…well…you?

I could visit every country in the world and every city each country and never find two people who were the same. Each person is unique with their own story and from each person’s story we can learn and grow. So, I would like to know.

Our lives are busy, full of people, events and somedays!

WAIT… What? Somedays?

I know it sounds weird, but we go around life thinking…SOMEDAY we will do this and SOMEDAY we will do that… But I wonder, are we taking the steps towards that? Are we pursuing our dreams?

Life can get complicated and we get distracted. I don’t want to get to the end of my life and realize those somedays have not come.

We might think that we have years to accomplish our goals, but do we? The story of Josiah shows the importance of Starting Now.

“Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem.” 2 Chronicles 34:1.

This one sentence may not seem important, but when we remember that kingship was for life, we add the time together and it shows Josiah died at the age of 39. Josiah was considered one of the greatest kings of Israel, he brought the city back to God.

Josiah could have easily waited to start his work… HE WAS EIGHT! But waiting was not part of Josiah’s plan. He had not reigned for long when he began to purge the city of its evil ways. If Josiah had waited until when people thought he was ready, his impact would not have been as great.

Look at today. Where do you want to be tomorrow? Next week? Next year? In five years? START NOW! It may be just a little step, but start now working towards your goals. Take action in your life which will help you achieve your dreams. Don’t wait for someday, because it may never come. Start now on your future.

Don’t Worry

Disney Don't WorryThere are many things that I worry about… have I put enough work into my task?  Am I missing something?  What if I fail?   In the different situations in life, we fret about what might be or what might have been if we had done it differently.  Worry, Worry, Worry, it had become a normal part of our lives.

Today at church, my pastor was talking about when we worry, he said, we start to tell God how big our problem is.  This is so true, I come to prayer thinking of all that could go wrong, all the issues that have to be overcome and all the work that I have to do.  However, my pastor continued and said, “We need to start telling our problem how big our God is.”

WOW!!!

This struck home.  We serve a God who is bigger than everything, He created the universe and He cares about us.  Revelation 22:13 tells us about God, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”  Our Lord is before and after all things, why should we worry for one moment about our lives, He has it all in control.
Corrie Worry

The life that we have been given is a gift. Our past, our present and our future are all in the Makers hands. I feel that Christ speaks to each one of us and says, “Don’t worry, I gave you life, I gave you everything you have. Trust in me.”

Clean

I was vacuuming my apartment the other day. And I have to say it was not pretty.  We have a vacuum with the clear container on the outside, so I could see all of the dirt that was being picked up.  I never realized how much dirt, dust and hair could be created by five girls.

This made me think, we never realized how much dirt there was until I cleaned it out.  It had built up gradually and we had gotten used to it. This same principle can apply to our lives.  Different things can build up, week by week, month by month the dirt in our hearts can build.  Continual cleaning to keep our hearts clean.  It is not until we examine and clean our lives, that we can see how much dirt was gathered there.

Lamentations 3:40 Says “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.”  It is our unclean hearts that keeps us from intimacy with the Lord and with others.  Cleaning our house is something we do on regular basis, cleaning our lives should be the same.

Bring Us Together

S'moresWe hustle and bustle all day long, we work, we go to school, we do chores, we go out.  Sometimes I even forget to breath!! This weekend, I have been able to take some time off with my family.  We started the fall season early, a fire, s’mores, rainy days and hot coffee (and tea).  If you can’t tell already, I love fall… I love all the seasons, but the fall lends itself to more family times.  There are many holidays (which are fun), but for me it is the weather cooling and the nights lengthening which brings us together.

Our society has started to drift apart.  We live in apartment buildings with hundreds of other people and we know few, if any, of them.  I remember as a child knowing every person in our neighbor hood and if we were an egg short for a recipe we would run over an ask.  But this has changed, we each want to be independent and to not be a burden.  We are missing the fun and company of many people.

Maybe it will take some planning and getting used to, but explore the possibility of bring people together.  Get to know your neighbors, spend quality time with your family, shut down the technology and put away the work.  The fellowship and fun to be found in the company of others is one of the precious moments of life.

Above the World

TravelThe other day, I was flying home and looking out the window, this is what I saw.  Blue sky stretching for mile.  It is one of the things that I love to see.

The sky is never the same and when flying, there is a whole new perspective.  The new perspectives are helpful in life too.  We each have a unique perspective and sometimes if we step back and seek a new perspective.

Proverbs 11:14 tells us, “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.”  With the counsel and perspective of others, there is wisdom.

These are some things for which I am thankful.

Succeeding, Yet Failing

Quote

“I used to be afraid of failing at something that really mattered to me, but now I’m more afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter” I read this in the book Love Does by Bob Goff and it challenged me to think.

Do we really know what we want? How do we decide? Do we strive for greatness or power or love? Do we show others kindness or pass by thinking… it is their problem.

We do so many things with our lives in the modern day that we can be pulled a million ways at once. We have to know what truly matters and what things are worth our effort.

It has been said that “Anything is possible if you just believe” and the idea behind this is true, if you try hard enough, you can accomplish your goals. I often think, if I could only accomplish one thing with my life, what would it be and are my actions working towards this goal?

For me, I care about people and I want to help them. If this is the case, then all of my actions should show my care and compassion. I know that personally, I don’t always act in this manner, and I have come to realize that these will be action that don’t matter. I can do them excellently, but they don’t matter and this is just a waste of my time. So, I can succeed in my actions, but fail at my goal. Each action we take, should have a purpose otherwise, we will be living busy empty lives, live in which we are succeeding, yet failing.

After the Rain…

RainbowToday, we had a heavy rainstorm and before it even stopped raining, I looked out my window and saw this rainbow.

I love rainbows… When I was little, I loved drawing them too. There are a couple reasons that I love rainbows.  Rainbows only come after the rain.  We may not appreciate the rain, but it takes the rain for the rainbow.

An other reason that I love rainbows is that it is a reminder of God’s promise.  Genesis 9:12-14 says “God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. “It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud.”  God promised that He would never again send a flood to cover the earth.

Windows to Heaven

Sun ShineOne of my favorite things to see is when the sun is barely behind a cloud.  I call them visible sunbeams.   I also think of them as a window into heaven.  I feel like it takes very special circumstances to see the sunbeams and that it is also a special time in heaven.  It is also a time for me to remember.  Each time I see the sunbeams, I think of my grandparents who have gone to be with the Lord.  I think of special times and what they meant to me.

These thoughts might seem strange, but I believe that God sends us reminders each day of who He is.  We just have to be looking for them.  That is why my #4 gift is the visible sunbeams that He sends me… my Windows to Heaven.
